Medicus has doubled its protection for doctors’ electronic medical records (EMR). New, expanded coverage has been added as well.

Austin, Texas (August, 2011)

Medicus offers at no additional charge to its insureds coverage up to $100,000 for Electronic Medical Records privacy liability and alleged and actual regulatory violations. This protection is through a policy endorsement called Advantage Gold and is essential in this day of HIPAA regulations and computer security breaches.

Physicians are increasingly exposed to privacy related claims such as a lost laptop, rogue employees, hacking and virus attacks which can result in an embarrassing and costly loss.

Advantage Gold is a superb policy enhancement because it covers so much for no additional cost. Advantage Gold insures network security and privacy including both online and offline information, failure to prevent unauthorized access, denial of service attacks, identity theft and virus attacks.

Advantage Gold also insures not only defense costs but also civil fines and penalties for Billing Errors (RAC), HIPAA, EMTALA and Stark proceedings. Advantage Gold covers patient notification and credit monitoring costs including expenses incurred by the insured to notify third persons of breach of information and “Red Flag Rules” violations. Advantage Gold will also pay for credit monitoring service for affected individuals for up to 12 months.

Medicus’ Advantage Gold also covers data recovery costs including all reasonable and required costs to recover/ replace data that is compromised, damaged, lost, erased or corrupted.

All of this Medicus Advantage Gold protection is up to $100,000 and is approved for AL, AZ, AR, CA, GA, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, MN, MS, MO, NE, NC, NV, OH, OK, OR, PA, TX, UT, VA, WV. This coverage is a group limit with a $1,000 retention. Physicians can apply for higher limits as well.

Additionally, Advantage Gold coverage has been expanded to include: peer review, legal expenses incurred in responding to subpoenas/testifying in actions where the insured is not a party, CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990).

Medicus now sells insurance from coast to coast. Eugenie Shea, President, said, “We are very proud of our Advantage Gold policy endorsement. It exemplifies what Medicus stands for—offering excellent protection, value and service to physicians across the country. Medicus strives every day to secure peace of mind for our insureds.”

Medicus also offers its insureds the option to pay premiums in 12 equal, monthly payments. This is new to the industry and is another example of Medicus Insurance Company’s progressive approach to protecting and serving their insured doctors. Additionally, all of Medicus’ payment options are free of finance charges.

Dr. Bill Bailey, Vice President of Medical Relations & Risk Management Officer for the company said, “Physicians are beginning to understand the challenges that can come with electronic medical records. Medicus Advantage Gold protects them from these issues.” Medical professionals who wish to take advantage of Medicus’ Advantage Gold, low rates and personal service are encouraged to contact their agent or call Medicus at 866-815-2023, or visit Medicus’ Web site at www.medicusins.com.
